UNFINISHED AND UN-AIRED EPISODES
Back to Midnight Pipes series overview.
View SEASON ONE episodes.
View SEASON TWO episodes.
In addition to the 24 episodes of the MIDNIGHT PIPES series that aired over select public television and cable affiliates, and which were distributed through mail-order subscriptions as VHS Hi-Fi Home Videos, 15 more episodes of MIDNIGHT PIPES were produced (as far as we know!); however, the footage for these additional programs was not post-produced, and the episodes were never seen on t.v. or elsewhere, owing to a wide variety of reasons.
The MIDNIGHT PIPES series concentrated on a single location in each episode, and, conforming to a 30 minute public-television time slot, each episode had a running duraton of between 27:00 and 29:50; however, in some cases, there was not enough usable footage in one location that met the producer's production values. The issue could have been something as simple as one of several cameras having a technical problem, or a key shot that was not well lighted, or not considered to be in good, critical focus. In other cases, footage from one or more cameras in a given production was actually misfiled, and remained lost until being located long after the series production ceased,.
In 2010, when all of the archived footage at Zarex HD studio was being prepared for transport from the original vault to a new location, much of the previously "lost" footage from uncompleted and unaired episodes of the MIDNIGHT PIPES series re-emerged. In some cases, all of the footage was recovered, and these few programs, planned, but never completed during the term of the series, were able to become finished. Today, as various segments from these episodes become post-produced, the segments are being posted to video-sharing websites, like YouTube™. As you can see in the list below, there are some interesting items among these recovered episodes.
When MIDNIGHT PIPES production concluded in 2003, it was clear that the series would have limited commercial use once the new HDTV (High-Definition Television) format became the industry standard. Although the video in the MIDNIGHT PIPES series was digitally recorded, the series was shot in Standard Definition video. While preparing to post "lost" segments at YouTube™, standard definition footage was upconverted to meet the new HDTV standard. Some video segments did well when "up-converted" to HDTV standards, while some did not.
Below, please find a list - as much as can be compiled to date, and which is still probably incomplete - of the wonderful people, organs, venues and the music, all of which was intended to be a part of the ongoing MIDNIGHT PIPES series.
Photo images will be posted on this webpage as we continue to archive these productions during 2013. Whenever a posting of a "lost" segment occurs, we will strive to include a direct link (look for BOLD, underlined texts) to allow you quick access and viewing.
